Social Media Page Rules
Our Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram accounts are owned and managed by the Youth Digital Compass programme run by the team at McGill University, supervised by Professor Victoria Talwar.
Mission and Purpose
These accounts have been created to share advice, resources, and best practice in online safety. They are dedicated to the following missions:
- Sharing our resources and distributing them online through social media.
- Increasing awareness to cyberbullying and effective strategies to respond to it.
- Encouraging healthy discussions and offering support for our community.
- Promoting kindness, respect, and positive behaviour online.
- Providing updates on our projects and related events (webinars etc.).
Rules for Respectful Participation
To make sure everyone feels welcome and respected, we have a few simple rules for our pages. By participating on our social media, you agree to follow these rules:
- Be positive, kind, and respectful: When you comment on posts and when you engage with other participants on our platforms, we expect you to interact kindly and respectfully. It is okay to disagree with others but aggressive attitudes, insults or put downs will not be tolerated.
- No offensive, threatening or discriminatory language. Comments of this nature will be removed or hidden and where community guidelines have been breached or an offence has taken place, reported to the platform and/or authorities.
- No inappropriate content: This includes sexually explicit content, violence, gore or anything else that is not suitable for our audience, especially young people.
- No cyberbullying or harassment: Cyberbullying is the use of digital technologies to repeatedly and intentionally harm, harass, or embarrass another person. We do not tolerate any form of cyberbullying or other types of indirect aggression.
- No spam or self-promotion: Please do not post repetitive messages, advertise your products or services, or try to recruit followers.
- Remember, everything you say on here is public. You are legally responsible for what you say and post on these pages. Don’t post anything that is: defamatory; fraudulent, deceptive or misleading; in violation of copyright/someone else’s intellectual property; at risk of causing serious prejudice to a trial; or in violation of any other laws or regulations. Your views are solely your own and not those of the Youth Digital Compass. The Youth Digital Compass does not endorse any opinions on these pages other than its own.
Moderation and Consequences
Our team actively monitors our social media pages to ensure these rules are followed.
- We reserve the right to block, hide, or delete comments and accounts that pose a risk to children or vulnerable adults, or conflict with our values.
- We may block accounts considered spam or dominating our accounts with their own agenda.
- Our moderation decisions are final.
